JACKIE

dir: Pablo Larraín
with Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, John Hurt, Richard E. Grant

Chile/France/US | 2016 | 100 mins | cert. 15 | col/B&W

Based on an interview Jackie Kennedy gave to a Life magazine reporter shortly after her husband’s assassination, Pablo Larraín’s Jackie is an exciting and subtly emotional portrait of an extraordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances. Amidst the political, press and family pressures she has the presence of mind to recognise that this is her only chance to protect and define her husband’s legacy. Natalie Portman’s ability to create a resemblance to Jackie Kennedy goes beyond the physical looks and transcends to the way of she moves, speaks and bears her clothes. The work of Costume Designer Madeline Fontaine is a fabulous as well as an accurate representation of Jackie Kennedy’s style during her White House years.

The screening was preceded by an on-stage conversation with Costume Designer Madeline Fontaine about her work for the film and her collaboration with actress Natalie Portman.
