AMERICAN HUSTLE

dir: David O. Russell

Costume Design: Michael Wilkinson

USA/ China | 2013 | 138 min | cert. 15

Irving Rosenfeld, a sly middle-aged New York con man makes his living from a varied series of scams. When he meets and falls for Sydney Prosser, once a New Mexico stripper who passes herself off as a sophisticated Brit, with their love for Duke Ellington as a starting point, life gets even more exciting… Only Irving is already married to the sexy Rosalyn, who invariably manages to drive him mad. But things get even brighter when Irving and Sydney get busted by FBI agent Richie DiMaso, who offers them a risky and challenging way to avoid prison.

Inspired by real facts that took place in the late seventies, the film features wonderful performances driven greatly by improvisation as well as sequins, lamé, perms, gold, fur, plummeting necklines, flashy three-piece suits…. glamorous and exuberant 70s fashion for a set of characters balancing who they really are and who they want to be through clothes.
