Maureen is an American girl living in Paris and working as a high-fashion personal shopper tending to the needs of a celebrity. The real reason for her to be in Paris is, however, to make contact with her deceased twin brother, who was, like her, a medium. Contrasted against her day job of Chanel fittings and trips to Christian Louboutin is a series of supernatural phenomena and a stalker who harasses her via her phone.

Following their previous collaboration on the acclaimed Clouds of Sils Maria, Kristen Stewart reunites with director Olivier Assayas and Costume Designer Jürgen Doering in an engaging and visually stunning psychological thriller.

As in Clouds of Sils Maria, Stewart’s character assists a famous woman and the wardrobes created by Doering alternate between casual and glamorous. Maureen’s modest wardrobe, composed mostly of jeans, polos, leather jackets and sweaters, contrasts with her employer’s high-fashion wardrobe, and helps create the dark mood of her life.

A key moment is when she slips into a stunning Chanel metallic dress which, with the help of Yorick Le Saux’s cinematography, helps to highlight the glamorous but dark atmosphere of the film, yet avoiding the obvious, as Stewart is one of Chanel’s faces.
