Anna Mary Scott Robbins, best known for her costumes for the Downton Abbey TV series and films, has enjoyed a very intense career that has won her several award nominations for her work. She will be joined by writer and curator Keith Lodwick to talk about her career, from Law School in Edinburgh to Downton Abbey and beyond.

The Conversation will be followed by a screening of the film Downton Abbey: A New Era.

The new and much-awaited cinematic return of Downton Abbey comes with exciting stories incluing a moving picture filmed at Downton Abbey itself, which brings a different kind of royalty from the first film and a grand journey to the South of France, where the Dowager Countess has, mysteriously for everyone, inherited a wonderful villa.

ABOUT ANNA MARY SCOTT ROBBINS

Anna Robbins is a costume designer who has designed costumes for numerous award winning productions and continues to build upon her solid reputation for creative flair and excellence within the world of film and television.

Having read Law at Edinburgh Law School, graduating in 2000, Anna went on to study costume design at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a 1st class BA (Hons) in 2005. Originally from Scotland, and currently London based, Anna continues to work across the UK and has been designing for the film and television industry since 2005.

Anna is a talented and creative individual who is passionate about the craft of characterisation through the medium of costume and is interested in strong concept led design, always with an eye for detailing within costume construction. In 2013 Anna took over as costume designer for Downton Abbey, designing the fifth and final sixth series. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy award for her designs on both series.

Anna went on to design costumes for Wild Rose earning her a BIFA nomination and the feature Downton Abbey, earning nominations for the Critics Choice Award and The Costume Designers Guild Awards. More recent design credits include Last Letter From Your Lover, Oscar winning film The Father directed by Florian Zeller and the most recent  film Downton Abbey: A New Era.

ABOUT KEITH LODWICK

Keith Lodwick is a curator, writer, and historian. He is the former Curator of Theatre and Screen Arts at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. At the V&A, Keith curated Vivien Leigh: Public Faces, Private Lives and was the V&A assistant curator for the major exhibition Hollywood Costume, one of the most successful exhibitions in the museum’s history. Keith has contributed to a wide range of publications including Oliver Messel: In the Theatre of Design, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty and Shoe Reels: The History and Philosophy of Footwear in Film.
