An adaptation from Patricia Highsmith’s novel by the same title, Carol tells us the romantic story between a wealthy married woman and a young girl working in a department store. Haynes captures with superb subtlety the repressed emotions in mid-century America. The aesthetics are gorgeous and the acting beautifully nuanced. Sandy Powell, who holds three Oscars for her work as Costume Designer, sets the glamorous allure of the wealthy socialite as well as the delicate elegance of the young girl.
ABOUT SANDY POWELL
Sandy Powell’s three Oscars were awarded for John Madden’s Shakespeare In Love, Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, and Jean-Marc Vallée’s The Young Victoria. She also has seven further Oscar nominations, two BAFTAs as well as several other nominations and awards, undoubtedly making her one of the most important Costume Designers working today.
Sandy Powell has delighted us with her many contributions to the visuals of films such as Sally Potter’s Orlando, and Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, and has empowered actors through her costume designs for over thirty years.
