STAGE FRIGHT

dir: Alfred Hitchcock
with Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman, Richard Todd

1950 | UK/USA | 110 min

When Eve, an aspiring actress at London’s RADA, learns that her friend Jonathan (with whom she’s secretly in love) is involved in a crime for which he’s innocent, she hides him in her father’s house at the coast. Driven by her secret love for him, she sets herself the task to investigate what really happened in the assassination of the husband of the famous actress Charlotte Inwood, who is Jonathan’s lover…

When the famous Hollywood diva was negotiating her participation in the film, she famously said to Hitchcock “No Dior, no Dietrich”. Hence all her costumes in the film were created by the French designer, only serving to enhance her star status through luxuriously sophisticated and elegant dresses that highlight Dietrich’s beauty and worldly finesse.
